The first reason is practical : www.domino.com was not available… I was not surprised obviously but I needed to find an extension to this (great 😉 ) DOMINO company name.
I could have fallen back to using “consulting” but as I previously explained this was not my intention. And being rather faithful to my gut feelings, I stayed away.
I then looked into the “domino universe” to see which other word could fit and none seemed to respond to the international constraint or sounded appropriate and simple enough to compose a company name.
I then turned to figures. At the moment I am writing, “COP 21” is taking a good share of our news reports. It would not be the same if this international meeting was called “COP” or “COP meeting”.
Well, it was the same for me. I wanted a figure that made sense and sounded right. It would also reflect my data driven mind.
Not long after I started looking I discovered that there are 28 tiles in a domino box. (most of the time because in Chinese older times it was sometimes played with 32 tiles.)
So, to be true to my explanation of using all tiles to play, it was going to be 28 : DOMINO 28.
Since I have found other justifications which are more or less “goofy”.
- I am 28 years old (ok, it’s a joke… add a couple of decades and you reach the age I will be in a quarter of 28.)
- 28 is the number of the french area (“département Eure et Loir”) where I love to rest on week-ends.
- 28 is the number of links between 8 people. Imagine 8 stakeholders which need to work out a project together. There probably needs to be 28 lines of communication to get right for success. My experience shows that this number is already quite a lot to deal with…
If you have other ideas on how I could explain the 28… Do not hesitate to contact me or comment this post.
